In 2010 Menu and Norm Architects joined forces with restaurant Höst in Copenhagen to create something magical. A dinnerware line expressing everything we categorize as “Nordic”. Materials, dishes, glasses, moods and colors. Everything just fits together to create a complex and inspiring feeling of something urban, yet rough and rural. Something rustic, yet simplistic.

Norm Architects initially designed this special Collection of dinnerware as a profound admiration of one of Denmark’s most prominent painters, Vilhelm Hammershoi, and the unique feel of the crisp and pristine Nordic winds, which served as the main inspiration for the color scheme.

New Norm Dinnerware is isostatically pressed to produce restaurant level quality and reliability. The flexible colors and materials allow you to go classic white and crisp, rough and rustic, or colorful and casual on a whim.

    Ø: 19 cm, H: 1,5 cm

Norm Architects

Founded in Copenhagen in 2008 by Jonas Bjerre-Poulsen and Kasper Rønn, Norm Architects specialise in residential architecture, commercial interiors, industrial design, photography and art direction. The name, Norm Architects, reflects the group’s emphasis on the importance of drawing inspiration from norms and traditions within architecture and design – particularly the Scandinavian design principles of timeless aesthetics and natural materials, and the modernist values of restraint and refinement. Guided by these principles, Norm Architects produce a design that unites materials and craftsmanship, while embodying beauty, history and, most importantly, timeless simplicity, where there is nothing more to add or take away. Today, the group regularly collaborates with MENU, helping to drive the evolution of the brand and its product offerings —imbued with the same intrinsic quality as Norms creative direction: a simplicity that carries bigger ideas. Lead by the body and mind rather than by trends or technology, their projects explore ideas that not only look good but that also feel good: architecture becomes thoughtful, minimalism acquires softness and visual matter assumes haptic qualities.

Situated in one of the oldest streets of Copenhagen, Denmark, they respect their context and build on the traditions of Modernist principles of restraint and refinement. Through exploring what it is that heightens the human senses regardless of personal preference, our projects strip spaces, objects, ideas and images back to their simplest form. "Our expertise lies in finding the balance—when there’s nothing more to either add or take away."

New Norm Dinnerware Family

All designs are colour-glazed and burned twice at 1400 degrees for maximum strength.  This gives your plates and bowls exceptional durability.

New Norm Dinnerware is manufactured at a state-of-the-art factory specializing in porcelain for restaurants and hotels.

A Menu bestseller, the series has a uniquely Nordic feel. Each new addition to the family is tested in Höst, a leading Copenhagen restaurant. And we don’t just care about aesthetics. Each piece is burned twice at 1,400 degrees for maximum strength and exceptional long-lasting durability. The dinnerware is finished with a special glaze that gives the porcelain its elegant, watercolour-like texture.

Guided by these principles, Norm Architects produce a dinnerware family that unites good materials and craftsmanship, while embodying beauty and timeless simplicity. The Scandinavian simplicity and purity of New Norm Dinnerware have won hearts all over
the world.
